At 7.30pm tonight we will gather for our Annual Church Meeting. This is always a great opportunity to look back and give thanks for all that we have seen God do over the previous year and to ask for his equipping for the year to come. The reading that was set for Morning Prayer today is Ephesians chapter 4 which in my Bible is entitled ‘Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ’. I was so encouraged to read these verses recognising the way in which God calls us to work together as his body to reflect his Glory.
Verses 4 – 6 say “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
As I prepare for the ACM and make a list of all the people we need to thank for the work that they do to help our church function I am always struck by how long the list is. We are blessed with an amazing group of people who make up our family here at St Augustine’s and it is a privilege to serve God together. Through the time, energy and gifts that people give to the church we are able to function as the living, breathing body that we are called to be, able to welcome and reach out in ways that demonstrate the love of God. Tonight we will give thanks for one another and for all that God has done in us and through us over this last year.
I want to rename these meetings our Annual Celebration Meeting because we have lots to celebrate!
