Human Sexuality Resourcing Day - Tuesday 24th February 2015

Human Sexuality Resourcing Day - Tuesday 24th February 2015, 10am to 4pm, North Light Gallery, Armitage Bridge, Huddersfield (HD4 7NR)

A registration form for the event can be found at the bottom of this page. The event has the backing of a number of churches.

You will be aware that the issue of human sexuality is high on the agenda for debate over the next couple of years in the Church of England and beyond. The ‘Pilling Report’, and the House of Bishops decisions that followed it, have committed the Church of England to a process of Shared Conversations over the next year or two. These will be important for all of us, even if we are not formally involved.

Leaders from some of the main Evangelical networks (including New Wine, Reform, Proclamation Trust, Awesome etc.) have already met. They discussed how best to support and inform Evangelicals of the issues and to equip them for sensitive and informed teaching and preaching, and engagement in the Shared Conversations (whether local, diocesan or national). This led to an initiative which has been launched - with the explicit support of John Coles (New Wine), Vaughan Roberts (Proclamation Trust) and Andrew Goddard (Fulcrum) - to convene a series of meetings in 2014/15 to:

• Resource and model orthodox Biblical teaching and to equip local church leaders
• Provide a forum for discussion of pastoral issues in the area of human sexuality
• Enable us to explore how an orthodox perspective can be secured and articulated in the conversations that are to come, whilst respecting the views of others.

We are therefore writing to invite you to a daytime meeting for clergy and key lay leaders in the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. The meeting will take place on Tuesday 24th Feb 2015, at the North Light, Huddersfield, from 10am to 4pm. (HD4 7NR)
Drinks and lunch will be provided  –  there is a suggested £20 contribution per person to cover costs.

We look forward to welcoming our speakers and panellists:

 • Rev. Dr Sean Doherty (St Milletus) – A Tutor in Ethics at St Mellitus, Sean has a doctorate from Oxford University, and is a member of the Grove Ethics Group. He is Associate Minister at an inner-city housing estate church plant.
• Prof. Glynn Harrison (General Synod) – Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry (University of Bristol), a former advisor to the World Health Organisation, and previously served on the Crown Nominations Committee.
• Rev. John Dunnett  (Chair EGGS General Synod) – Spent 18 years as a Parish Priest, joining CPAS in 2006 as General Director.  John is a regular New Wine and Diocesan Evangelical Fellowship speaker

We are praying that this gathering be a significant one to encourage and resource local church leaders (lay and ordained) in our diocese/region – so can we encourage you to make every effort to join us, and forward this page to key Evangelical partners seeking to equip their churches for Bible teaching and pastoral care in this area. .
